The history of
the UIN Mataram Library is closely intertwined with the development of Islamic
higher education in West Nusa Tenggara. Its origins can be traced back to the
establishment of the Mataram Branch of Sunan Ampel State Islamic Institute
(IAIN Sunan Ampel), which was founded as part of the Indonesian Ministry of
Religious Affairs' initiative to expand access to Islamic higher education.
From its inception, the library has served as a fundamental academic support
unit by providing information resources and scholarly literature to facilitate
education, research, and the advancement of academic traditions within the
University.
As the institution evolved from the Mataram Branch of IAIN
Sunan Ampel to the State Islamic Institute of Mataram (IAIN Mataram), and
subsequently to Mataram State Islamic University (UIN Mataram), the library
likewise underwent significant transformation. Responding to the expansion of
academic disciplines and the increasing demands for excellence in higher
education, the library has progressed from a collection-centred institution
into a comprehensive knowledge hub that supports teaching, learning, research,
scholarly publishing, knowledge preservation, and the dissemination of academic
outputs. This transformation has been realized through the development of
multidisciplinary collections, the modernization of library services, the
digitization of information resources, the establishment of an institutional
repository, expanded access to electronic resources, and strengthened
information literacy and research support services.
To strengthen its organizational governance, the status of
the UIN Mataram Library as a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) was formally
reaffirmed through the Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the
Republic of Indonesia No. 52 of 2022, amending Ministerial Regulation No. 18 of
2017 concerning the Organisational Structure and Governance of UIN Mataram.
This regulation was subsequently implemented through Rector's Decree No. 3818
of 2022, establishing the Technical Implementation Unit of the UIN Mataram
Library, which serves as the legal foundation for the library's organizational
structure and service operations.
In the era of digital transformation, the UIN Mataram Library continues to strengthen its role as a knowledge ecosystem that integrates information services, information literacy development, research and scholarly publication support, and expanded access to global knowledge resources. Guided by the spirit of Iqra', the Islamic principle that emphasizes the pursuit of knowledge, the library is committed to serving as a strategic partner of the University in fostering academic excellence, strengthening research productivity, and promoting lifelong learning that contributes to the advancement of scholarship, society, the nation, and human civilization.
